SOUTHFIELD, MI -- (Marketwire) -- 07/20/09 -- Ten Oakland Southfield Physicians (OSP) practices have been selected as Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) designated practices by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM). These ten practices are the first OSP practices to be recognized as part of a statewide PCMH initiative established in partnership with physician organizations and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
PCMH is a new way for patients to work as a team with their primary care physician to manage their medical care. The PCMH-designated OSP practices support their patients with their health care needs. The physicians provide their patients with extended office hours and other ways to keep in contact. The practices use technology such as electronic prescribing, patient registry systems and electronic medical records to monitor patient health conditions and treatment. Adoption of PCMH principles by OSP physician practices impacts quality and efficient delivery of health care.
"We are very pleased about this recognition and value our partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan," says Jerome Frankel, DO, Medical Director at Oakland Southfield Physicians.
Dr. Frankel has played an important role in helping to implement the fundamentals behind the Patient-Centered Medical Home by serving on the BCBSM Value Partnerships Primary Care Leadership Committee, a committee which represents the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and cooperative physician partnerships that are striving to improve medical care.
"It is a great honor to be part of this transformation in medical care and we at Oakland Southfield Physicians are proud to be acknowledged for instituting the Patient-Centered Medical Home," says Dr. Frankel.
"This accomplishment took a huge effort on the part of the physicians and their office staff; we greatly appreciate their commitment to this innovative approach to medicine," says Dr. Frankel. "The PCMH standards require leadership on the part of the physicians and are meant to be constantly improved upon."
The enormous effort that has been put forth by these physicians has proven to be a benefit to both the patients and the physicians involved. Oakland Southfield Physicians sees these ten practices as the first of many within their organization to be PCMH certified. OSP is appreciative to the ten recognized practices and is moving forward with PCMH throughout the entire physician organization.
