Nominations Now Open for RSA® Conference 2010 Awards

SAN MATEO, Calif. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- RSA® Conference (www.rsaconference.com), the world’s leading information security conferences and expositions, today announced that its 13th annual RSA Conference Awards program is open for nominations. These awards honor influential contributors to information security in three categories – mathematics, public policy and security practices. Winners will be announced at RSA Conference, taking place March 1-5, 2010, at The Moscone Center in San Francisco. “For well over a decade, RSA Conference has honored forward-thinking individuals who have made significant advancements in their respective fields,” said Sandra Toms LaPedis, Area Vice President and General Manager of RSA Conference. “Throughout the years, our awards program has consistently recognized individuals for spearheading the development of innovative solutions and products in the information security industry.”

The RSA Conference 2010 Awards categories are as follows:

  • Excellence in the Field of Mathematics – recognizes innovation and ongoing contributions to the field of cryptography. The judging committee, coordinated by RSA® Laboratories (http://www.rsa.com/rsalabs/), acknowledges nominees whose pioneering work has had a lasting value to cryptography. Nominees should be affiliated with universities or research labs.
  • Excellence in the Field of Public Policy – recognizes significant contributions and leadership in the field of cyber security public policy. The judging committee rewards nominees who hold elected or appointed offices, are associated with public interest organizations or are associated with an organization that has significantly contributed to the development or application of current information security and/or privacy policy.
  • Excellence in the Field of Security Practices – recognizes outstanding achievement in the practice of security within an organization. The judging committee honors a security practitioner for his/her outstanding security program or initiative. This program or initiative must have made significant contributions to improving the security posture and business processes within their organization, and should be repeatable and of use to other organizations. This award is co-sponsored and judged by the Executive Security Action Forum (ESAF), an association of chief information security officers and other senior executives responsible for protecting information for Global 1000 companies and government agencies.

RSA Conference Award recipients from 2009 include Neal Koblitz, Professor, University of Washington; Victor S. Miller, Mathematician, IDA Center for Communications Research, Princeton; Keith Mularski, Supervisory Special Agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation; and Robert Lentz, Deputy Secretary of Defense, Department of Defense. Last year, the RSA Conference Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Taher Elgamal, recognized in the industry as the "inventor of SSL.”
