Lindows.com Inc. announced today the beginning of a 30,000 LindowsOS PC launch geared to equip Canadians with affordable and easy-to-use computing solutions.
Successful trials of LindowsOS WebStations ( www.lindows.com/webstation ), the powerful, affordable machines designed for web work, are currently underway in Canada. The province of Nova Scotia has already deployed LindowsOS WebStations in four Nova Scotia Regional Community Access Program (C@P) centers. These centers operate as a public service, allowing residents of various communities to access the Internet and use the computers for their own needs.
Lindows.com, in conjunction with the South West Shore Development Authority (SWSDA), is moving throughout Nova Scotia and other provinces to bring LindowsOS to the greater Canada area. It is expected that more than 30,000 LindowsOS machines will be deployed within one year of the initial deployments. LindowsOS WebStations ( www.lindows.com/webstation ) and other configurations of LindowsOS computers ( www.lindows.com/featured ) will fulfill the needs of the Canadian government, as well as businesses and homes in Canada.
To locally serve these deployments and expand sales and marketing efforts, Lindows.com has opened a Canadian office. This office will work closely with Canadian government agencies to obtain broader site licenses. Canadian retailers will also be able to access this location for support as well. Peter Dugas, the chief technical officer of the South West Shore Development Authority (SWSDA) in Yarmouth of Nova Scotia, Canada, has been appointed by Lindows.com to serve as the Director of International Governmental Relations. Dugas' appointment will support Lindows.com's mission of bringing low-cost, high-quality software and hardware throughout the nation of Canada.
"Nearly 20% of our early interest came from Canadian customers," said Michael Robertson, chief executive officer of Lindows.com Inc. "Residents of Canada have been enthusiastic about the value pricing and ease-of-use that LindowsOS offers, and we're pleased to open another channel of sales and support."
"Desktop Linux is rapidly become the preferred choice for many governments, and the Canadian government is no exception," said Peter Dugas, the Director of International Governmental Relations for Lindows.com Inc. "Lindows.com's Canadian office will rapidly deploy and support desktop Linux for the Canadian government as well as businesses throughout Canada."
