Cyntellect Announces Most Recent Cell Xpress(TM) Biopharmaceutical Customer

Companies mentioned in this article: Cyntellect

Cyntellect, Inc., a privately-held biotechnology company, today announced that an undisclosed United States-based biotechnology company has entered into a formal agreement to access Cyntellect's Cell Xpress service. The agreement represents the second publicly announced Cell Xpress relationship since the service was launched in October of 2004. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"We are very pleased that leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies are recognizing the value that Cell Xpress provides for improving the productivity of their therapeutic antibody and recombinant protein programs," stated Dr. Fred Koller, President and CTO. "We have received an unexpectedly large interest in this service and we look forward to expanding our capabilities to meet the market need."

The Cell Xpress service is built upon Cyntellect's proprietary LEAP (Laser Enabled Analysis and Processing) platform which enables high-throughput, in situ imaging and measurement of protein secretion on an individual cell basis, coupled with laser-based elimination of undesired cells to directly clone cells with the highest protein secretion. Based on these attributes, Cell Xpress offers customers a means to:

* Accelerate cloning of high-secreting cell lines for biopharmaceutical production,

* Simultaneously isolate those high-secreting cell lines with ideal cell growth characteristics,

* Significantly decrease failure rates associated with the cell line development process,

* Provide complete visual documentation of selected cell line clonality, and

* Deliver a unique mechanism for identifying rare, "super-expressing" cell lines.
