Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., (TAEC) announce today that Douglas Wong, member of TAEC's technical staff for memory products, will participate at the 2005 IDEMA Symposium titled "Small Form Factor HDD & Flash Memories: Coexistence or Competition." The symposium opens on February 17, 2005, at the Santa Clara Westin Hotel in Santa Clara, California, and will focus on the attributes of both magnetic hard disk drives and semiconductor flash memories for specific applications, and will attempt to answer the question on how these two technologies will either compete or coexist in today's market.

Wong's session, titled "The future of Solid State Storage: Which segments will be better served by NAND Flash?" Will address the rapid growth and widespread adoption in portable electronics and consumer applications of NAND Flash memory. He will review the tradeoffs that consumer electronics designers are facing when choosing between high capacity, micro Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and NAND Flash, and which applications and market segments are likely to be served by each of these storage solutions.

Wong's presentation is part of Session 2: Flash Memory Technology, chaired by Tom Coughlin, a data storage consultant. The session also includes presentations by Charles Lee of Intel, Esther Spanjer of M-Systems, Farshid Sabet of SanDisk and Don Barnetson of Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.
