SAN DIEGO--- Amylin Pharmaceuticals Appoints Roger Marchetti as Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Corporate Services

Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMLN) today announced that Roger Marchetti will join the Company as Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Corporate Services. Mr. Marchetti will take over for Martin Brown, who will be retiring from Amylin in October.

Mr. Marchetti joins Amylin from Guidant Corporation, where he most recently served as Vice President, Human Resources. Prior to this role, he was Vice President, Finance and Information Systems, Guidant Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Canada. Mr. Marchetti also served as Vice President, Human Resources for Guidant's Vascular Intervention group and before that as Guidant's Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer. Prior to Guidant, he served in various accounting positions at Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. (ACS), Eli Lilly and Company's Medical Devices and Diagnostics division and as Financial Manager for Lilly's pharmaceutical manufacturing operations in Indianapolis.

Mr. Marchetti received his B.S. in Business Administration from LaSalle University and his MBA from the University of Michigan. He is a Certified Public Accountant, a member of the Financial Executives Institute, and serves on the corporate advisory board of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
