Dell Positioned as a “Leader” in the Latest IT Asset Disposition Magic Quadrant Report

Companies mentioned in this article: Dell Inc.

ROUND ROCK, Texas -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Dell today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Leaders” quadrant of its 2011 “Magic Quadrant for North America Information Technology Asset Disposition (ITAD)” Report. The report was compiled using extensive research and customer feedback and is designed to help potential customers evaluate service providers.

The Dell Asset Resale and Recycling Service, which was the primary solution evaluated by Gartner in this report, provides customers with a safe, simple and environmentally conscious process to manage the disposal of old systems. The service protects sensitive data on those systems by removing labels from equipment, overwriting readable hard drives and shredding inoperable disks. This helps customers eliminate security headaches by securing and properly destroying sensitive data and applications.

In its fiscal year 2011, Dell recycled more than 150 million pounds of electronics globally, an increase of 16 percent year over year and greater than the weight of more than 3,717 city buses or 914 Boeing 737 jets. Dell is on pace to recycle one billion pounds by 2014.

According to Gartner, “Leaders in the ITAD market execute well against their current robust vision, and are well positioned for the future. The vendors in the Leaders quadrant register the highest scores on Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision. These vendors typically have wider geographic coverage, both within North America and globally. Significant weight is placed on geographic coverage through direct, owned and operated facilities (vs. indirect coverage through partners), with special emphasis on North America. While this Magic Quadrant specifically evaluates the North American ITAD marketplace, our research indicates that many North America-based multinational enterprises place significant value on a robust international ITAD presence. Vendors in the Leaders quadrant are also characterized by comprehensive sales organizations, financial stability, a clear and consistent commitment to the ITAD market, comprehensive customer support, broader service portfolios, and greater market presence.”1

Quotes:

“The simple fact is that computing hardware doesn’t last forever. Retaining old or obsolete equipment is not only expensive, but it also poses a security risk. Dell Services helps ensure that confidential customer data, intellectual property and content stored on business servers, laptops and desktops is secure through every stage of the disposal process. Our execution in this space exceeds regulatory guidelines for IT disposition.”
