Infortrend Adds High-Density, 48-Bay Storage Solutions to Its EonStor DS Family

Companies mentioned in this article: Infortrend

SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/31/12 -- Infortrend® (TPE: 2495) today announced the addition of new high-density storage solutions in its EonStor DS family. The new solutions help users meet extreme capacity requirements with 48 drive bays in a 4U form factor, while offering excellent cost efficiency. In addition, the new systems come with hybrid Fibre Channel (FC)/iSCSI host connectivity for cost-effective remote replication or consolidated SAN tiering.

The extreme capacities offered by the high-density EonStor DS solutions are ideal for applications such as HPC (High Performance Computing) and data archiving. Featuring three separate drawers accommodating 16 disk drives each, as well as simplified system cabling, the solutions are extremely easy to maintain. If user requirements exceed the capacity offered by a single 48-bay system, capacity can be flexibly expanded with expansion enclosures to a maximum of 240 drive bays.

Furthermore, the high density of the solutions reduces the required amount of floor space and lowers power consumption. Combined with competitive prices, the new solutions deliver excellent cost efficiency.

With hybrid FC/iSCSI connectivity, the high-density solutions enable users to deploy mission-critical applications on FC SAN while configuring cost-effective remote replication via iSCSI-based data transmission over Ethernet. The hybrid connectivity can also be used to support consolidated SAN tiering, whereby a single solution can meet service level requirements of tier 1 applications on FC SAN and tier 2 applications on IP SAN.

Advanced data services help users get even more out of their solution. Standard available snapshot and volume copy/mirror, as well as remote replication, help users effectively protect their data and implement comprehensive disaster recovery plans. Thin provisioning enables dynamic capacity provisioning to optimize storage resource utilization.

Thomas Kao, senior director of product planning at Infortrend, noted, "For some applications, raw capacity is a primary consideration. Our high-density solutions easily meet extreme capacity requirements, while not losing sight of other important data storage aspects that can greatly benefit users, such as data services and hybrid host connectivity. Available at competitive prices, the new solutions are part of our unwavering commitment to delivering comprehensive storage solutions that easily fit into IT budgets."

The new EonStor DS high-density solutions include the following:

  • EonStor DS S48F-R2842: Dual-redundant controllers, eight 8Gb/s FC ports + four 1GbE iSCSI ports, 4U form factor, 48 drive bays, standard available snapshot and volume copy/mirror, remote replication, thin provisioning.
  • EonStor DS S48F-G2842: Single controller, four 8Gb/s FC ports + two 1GbE iSCSI ports, 4U form factor, 48 drive bays, standard available snapshot and volume copy/mirror, remote replication, thin provisioning.
