ATLANTA -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Stonesoft today announced that its firewall/VPN product family has received the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4+ (EAL4+) certification, an international security standard for IT security products. The EAL4+ is the highest security standard for commercial products and indicates that the products are rigorously engineered to a high degree of quality.
Stonesoft Firewall/VPN security appliances provide in-depth network security and end-to-end availability for distributed enterprises. Stonesoft Firewall/VPN appliances are used to protect network perimeter and internal network segments and to provide business continuity. Stonesoft Firewall/VPN product is the only firewall/VPN product with high availability functionality included in the evaluation.
EAL4+ certification provides assurance to government agencies and organizations protecting mission-critical assets that Stonesoft’s firewall solutions meet strict security criteria. Common Criteria certification of security products is mandated by the U.S. government for all federal purchases. In the public sector, network security solutions are preferred to achieve at least EAL2 certification; higher levels like EAL4+ further increase customers’ confidence that the product meets the most stringent security criteria.
“The global public sector and enterprises with high security needs are demanding Common Criteria certification because they do not have or do not want to use their own resources to validate and rigorously test all security products. The Common Criteria certification proves that an independent laboratory has tested the security product and the product has passed that test,” said Klaus Majewski, director of business development at Stonesoft. “Stonesoft received its first Common Criteria certification for its Firewall/VPN product in 2003, and since then we have continued to systematically certify our products using Common Criteria scheme. This demonstrates our continuous commitment to providing our customers full confidence that they are in compliance with globally accepted security standards.”
To achieve the EAL4+ certification, the Stonesoft Firewall/VPN was subjected to a long and stringent evaluation process. Common Criteria is an international set of guidelines (ISO 15408) that provides a common framework for evaluating security features and capabilities of Information Technology security products, and EAL4+ is the highest assurance level that is recognized globally by all signatories under the Common Criteria Recognition Agreement (CCRA) as well as the highest commercially feasible certification level.
The Common Criteria certification is an independent security standard that is globally ratified in 26 countries. More and more organizations with high security demands rely on the certification when making investment decisions. Common Criteria certified products have undergone and passed extensive and rigorous independent third-party testing, giving customers assurance that the product meets the security requirements defined in the Security Target evaluation document. The StoneGate Firewall/VPN version 5.2.5.8081.cc.2 was tested and validated by Atsec Information Security AB evaluation facility under supervision of Swedish Certification Body (CSEC).
