SUNNYVALE--- Chelsio Communications Raises $12 Million Series D

Companies mentioned in this article: Logic Corporation - LSI Logic, Inc.

Chelsio Communications Inc., the leading provider of 10-Gigabit Ethernet and iSCSI acceleration adapters and ASIC solutions, today announced the first close of a private venture funding round, raising a total of $12 million while adding LSI Logic as a new investor.

This funding provides Chelsio with sufficient capital to reach profitability and will be used to grow the business and ramp production of Chelsio's next generation product line that addresses the growing demand for 10GbE protocol offload.

"The design window for 10GbE products has finally arrived, driven in part by Microsoft's recently announced Chimney protocol stack offload technology. Major storage and networking vendors are beginning to develop products around this technology and Chelsio is strongly positioned to deliver 10GbE TCP offload solutions in the market with full Chimney support," said Kianoosh Naghshineh, president and CEO of Chelsio.

"We are pleased to have this round of private investment, attracting a semiconductor partner to our investment team," Naghshineh added. "This funding enables us to deliver our next generation Ethernet protocol offload engine, which will integrate NIC, TOE, iSCSI and RDMA functionality to enable convergence of storage, clustering, and networking fabrics onto a single unified wire."
