Akonix Systems, the provider of the most deployed instant messaging (IM) security and compliance products in the world, today announced its Security Center (www.imsecuritycenter.com) researchers tracked 17 attacks against I'm networks in June, and a total of 111 during the first six months of 2006.
New worms identified in June include BlackAngel and Gaobot. The most common attacks were Tilebot and Mesoto, which each had three variants. Overall, Akonix security analysts issued a total of five new policy updates, using the industry's only dynamic I'm malware, spim and protocol update system. This automatically pushes updates to customers and blocks spyware, worms and viruses in real time at the network perimeter. Akonix customers were secure on day zero from each new threat with the deep protection and containment features of Akonix's 360 degree Security for Real-Time Communications(TM).
"With 111 new attacks on I'm networks through the first six months of this year, virus writers have continued in their quest to find attractive attack vectors other than email to spread malicious content," said Don Montgomery, vice president of marketing at Akonix. "With 360-Degree Security, our customers enjoy the peace of mind delivered by the combination of our early warning system, our patent-pending spyware and malicious code protection and our multi-layer containment features. The benefit to our customers is that this process is automatic and requires no IT resources or system downtime."
