SAN DIEGO--- Optimer Appoints Anthony E. Altig to Board of Directors
Optimer Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:OPTR) today announced that Anthony E. Altig has joined the company’s Board of Directors and will be an active member of the company’s audit and nominating and corporate governance committees.

Anthony Altig has over two decades of experience in the biotechnology and technology industry with expertise in equity and debt financing transactions, financial operations, strategic alliances, and mergers and acquisitions. Most recently Mr. Altig served as Senior Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary of Diversa Corporation (now Verenium Corporation) for three years. Prior to joining Diversa, Mr. Altig served as the Chief Financial Officer of Maxim Pharmaceuticals (now EpiCept Corporation), a public biopharmaceutical company. In addition to these and other corporate positions, Mr. Altig served as a consultant to the biotechnology and technology industry during his tenures at PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG.
Mr. Altig currently serves as a director and chair of the audit committee for MultiCell Technologies, a public biopharmaceutical company.
