NANTUCKET, Mass. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Nantucket’s primary source of full range health and wellness services, proudly announces that Dr. Margot Hartmann, president and CEO of Nantucket Cottage Hospital, has been named “Person of the Year” by Nantucket Magazine. Dr. Hartmann was selected for her positive impact to the island, both professionally in her role as CEO and personally as a member of the island community.

Since assuming the role of CEO and president two years ago, Dr. Hartmann has worked from the inside-out to build a stronger organization representing the best in quality of care and satisfaction among patients. Previously, Dr. Hartmann was at the helm of the hospital’s emergency room, where she brought a strong sense of compassion mixed with lighting fast medical intuitiveness to solve some of the island’s most complicated medical emergencies. Today, as CEO, Dr. Hartmann has put forward strategic initiatives on several fronts, most notably closing a $7.5 million dollar fiscal gap of operating losses, returning the hospital back to strong financial performance.

Dr. Hartmann has also worked tirelessly to cultivate the affiliation Nantucket Cottage Hospital has with Massachusetts General Hospital and Partners Healthcare, and personally liaising with members of the community to get a better sense of their needs, desires and perceptions. The result of this outreach culminated in the expansion of the hospital’s primary care program, MD ACKcess, which offers both year-round residents and seasonal visitors improved access to leading primary care clinicians located on the island.

“In her short tenure as CEO and president, Margot has brought to fruition a vision which has helped return Nantucket Cottage Hospital to a gold standard of care, excellence and sustainability,” said Michael A. F. Roberts, chairman of the Board of Trustees for Nantucket Cottage Hospital. “We are all extremely proud of her accomplishments and are confident that with Margot at the helm, our next chapter of excellence will be even better.”

“Given Dr. Hartmann’s enormous impact in the island’s most important institution, our choice of her as person of the year was clear,” said Bruce A. Percelay, editor and publisher of Nantucket Magazine. Dr. Hartmann’s exclusive interview with Nantucket Magazine is featured in this month’s edition, on newsstands now.
