CHICAGO -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- USRobotics, a Platinum Equity company, today debuted the USR4204 Courier™ Console Server & Power Hybrid, a critical back-up business tool that provides continual out-of-band (OOB) access to a company’s IT infrastructure both onsite and remotely when the network cannot be accessed due to severe weather, connectivity failures, or problematic equipment. The new console server is currently shipping throughout North America and Europe.
Developed in-house by an experienced team of USRobotics engineers, the new USR4204 is a compact hybrid: a console server and a power distribution unit packed into one streamlined chassis that can be set on or under a desk or installed in a standard 1U 19-inch rack. Designed for remote offices and small-to-medium sized businesses, the new server hybrid creates secure access to a company’s IT infrastructure through a single OOB modem for all connected devices, thereby reducing the expenditures for multiple phone lines, modems, rack space and other redundant equipment. At the same time, it allows for complete network management and rebooting of network devices from across the room, the country or even the world.
“The new console hybrid saves time, space and money, along with the headaches involved with downtime when the network isn’t accessible,” explained Bruce Swail, CEO of USRobotics. “It dramatically reduces the amount of OOB equipment needed for a back-up system and can be accessed remotely with only one modem, one connection and the ports required to run the business.”
Swail added that the console server allows a secure connection from anywhere by simply using a username and password. An additional layer of security, including dial-back features, is added when used with world-wide approved USRobotics’ Courier Business Modems. This feature checks calls for password authorization and then dials back preset numbers to ensure appropriate users are able to establish connections.
The new USR4204 is one of the only hybrid console products available with two independently controllable power ports employing industry standard IEC C13 style outlets for controlling 120-240VAC 50 or 60 Hz loads. IT administrators can comfortably power two standard power supplies with a robust eight Amp rated power port to reboot firewalls, routers or other appliances quickly and efficiently. Additionally the USR4204 allows independent remote monitoring of AC current demand on each output power port for further diagnostic enhancement. At the same time, the console portion of the unit can switch between four serial devices remotely with a modem or locally with a connected terminal using standard Ethernet cables to link to network appliances. Remote Flash capability allows for software upgrades at remote locations from a central site and supports Cisco ROMmon for Cisco Network Appliances.
The compact design is merely 10 x 7.75 x 1.71 inches and 3.42 pounds. It ships ready to go in a box that contains the hybrid server, an RJ45 cable and adapters, two rack mount brackets with mounting screws, and four rubber desktop feet.
The USR4204 Courier Console Server Hybrid boasts regulatory designations and approvals including FCC, ICES, UL/CUL, CAN/CSA, CE, RoHS, and WEEE.
