Former Commanding Officer of USS Key West Koonce Joins MPR

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- MPR (www.mpr.com) has named Robert A. Koonce as Director of Electric Power Systems and Analysis in its Power Group. In this position, Mr. Koonce will lead MPR's consulting, analysis and design services related to electrical systems and components, including generator excitation systems.

Prior to joining MPR, Mr. Koonce enjoyed a successful career in the U.S. Navy serving as Commanding Officer of USS Key West, a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine, where he was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptional performance and the crew earned the Battle Efficiency Award for top submarine in the squadron. Mr. Koonce served on five fast attack submarines during his career and where his assignments included Executive Officer, Chief Engineer, and various division officer assignments. Additionally, after commanding the Key West, he served as Senior Member of the Pacific Fleet Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board where he led a team of engineers inspecting all Pacific Fleet nuclear powered aircraft carriers and submarines.

Mr. Koonce holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, an MA in National Security Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. He retired from the Navy at the rank of Commander.
