WASHINGTON, Feb. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Blackboard Inc. today announced an agreement with the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education, which governs the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities system (ConnSCU), for a new, statewide platform for online and mobile learning to support ConnSCU's 17 institutions and 96,000 students.
With the deal, each of the campuses will gain access to Blackboard Learn((TM)) and Blackboard Mobile Learn((TM)) for the next three years. The institutions include Central Connecticut State University, Eastern Connecticut State University, Southern Connecticut State University, Western Connecticut State University, 12 community colleges and the state's only public, online college, Charter Oak State College.
This partnership marks the latest in a series of statewide partnerships for Blackboard, as states are increasingly looking for a common learning platform that will increase user fluency, collaboration across multiple campuses, and operational efficiencies. States moving to a common online and mobile learning platform frequently are able to devote more attention to improving education and outcomes.
"Boards of education that standardize online platforms and tools across campuses are making a great business decision, as it can create efficiencies that allow for a greater focus on pedagogy," said Sig Behrens, president of Global Sales for Blackboard. "We are excited to partner with the Connecticut Board of Regents to expand learning opportunities for both students and educators by helping deliver consistent, high quality, web-based courses and instructional support."
ConnSCU's 17 institutions join thousands of institutions worldwide that have adopted the latest version of Blackboard Learn, the company's learning management system, and enabled Blackboard's mobile learning apps.
