SAN FRANCISCO -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Fixmo, a leading provider of mobile security and risk management solutions, today announced Fixmo Labs, a research and commercialization entity for fostering innovation and advancement in the industry’s approach to securing the next generation of mobile computing.
Through collaboration with global leaders in IT security research, including Singapore’s Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R), Fixmo Labs will foster advanced mobile security research projects and will commercialize resulting technologies for use by device manufacturers, security solution vendors, enterprise customers and others in the industry. With a focus on exploit prevention and risk mitigation in the age of consumerization, Fixmo Labs will engage in research and development projects in the following key areas:
Fixmo Labs research and development will be done in cooperation with other leaders the industry. In addition to I2R, Fixmo is collaborating with Lockheed Martin as well as Capitol College— an NSA and DHS National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
"Fixmo Labs is taking a different approach to mobile security research,” said Dan Ford, Chief Security Officer at Fixmo. “Rather than focus on discovering malware after it has been released, Fixmo Labs will help uncover OS vulnerabilities and potential attack vectors BEFORE they are exploited, and will work with industry partners to develop solutions to mitigate the resulting risks. It will also investigate new methodologies for strong authentication and identity verification that go beyond the limitations of traditional passwords and hardware-based two-factor authentication."
At RSA, Fixmo will demonstrate initial research, including the following joint projects:
“With the increasing use of mobile devices globally, mobile applications and OS vulnerabilities are being increasingly exploited to compromise security and integrity of individuals and businesses alike. The techniques developed by I2R and Fixmo Labs can proactively pre-empt mobile OS vulnerabilities and enable businesses and consumers to protect their data from cyber attacks. The RSA Conference is a perfect platform for us to showcase this cutting-edge technology to the industry,” said Dr. Tan Geok Leng, Executive Director of I2R.
As an output of the research and development initiatives, Fixmo Labs will offer commercial products, services, and data feeds for discovered threats and vulnerabilities to other security vendors, device manufacturers, mobile operators, fraud detection services, financial institutions and enterprises.
“Fixmo Labs is squarely focused on creating new technologies and services to help the industry at large mitigate the mounting security risks associated with mobile technologies,” said Lee Cocking, Vice President of Risk Intelligence at Fixmo. “We look forward to demonstrating new technologies at the RSA conference for mobile OS vulnerability discovery and advanced user authentication on touch screen devices. These will be the first of many exciting research and development projects that we will drive at Fixmo Labs.”
