DALLAS -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Jericho Systems Corporation announced that it is demonstrating the enforcement of digital privacy preferences as part of a reference pilot being conducted on behalf of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) at the 2013 Annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference & Exhibition. The pilot demonstration, featuring Jericho Systems’ EnterSpace Exchange and EnterSpace Decisioning Service software, will appear in the HIMSS13 Interoperability Showcase at the ONC Data Segmentation for Privacy (DS4P) booth from March 4-6, 2013, in the La Nouvelle Ballroom—Level 2, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
The ONC-sponsored demonstration simulates the exchange of electronic medical records using a commonly used Internet specification called the eHealth Exchange (once known as the Nationwide Health Information Network Exchange). A centralized repository is used to store digital policies that specify conditions under which Protected Health Information (PHI) can be electronically shared.
At the booth, visitors can explore Jericho Systems’ PatientPortal™ user interface that allows patients to view and change privacy preferences. Simulated patients will control the release of their PHI when their medical records are requested electronically from their healthcare provider.
“Changing federal and state laws will require increased patient control over the electronic sharing of PHI outside of the health provider’s organization,” said Jericho CTO David Staggs. “Jericho Systems’ PatientPortal and gateway products fit seamlessly within an electronic workflow to provide a secure and auditable solution to consent management and organizational control over shared PHI.”
Jericho Systems previously demonstrated enforcement of access control policies over the transmission of SAMHSA-VA patients’ medical records at the Health Level Seven (HL7) working group meeting on behalf of the DS4P pilot working group. EnterSpace Exchange and EnterSpace Decisioning Service were integral to the “push” ecosystem demonstration, in which unauthorized disclosure of sensitive treatment information was prevented.
“The expanding use of electronic health records raises privacy challenges for individuals,” said Jericho CEO Brynn Mow. “During this pilot, Jericho demonstrates how patients can participate and benefit when requests are made to transfer their PHI, thanks to Best Privacy Technology award-winner of 2012, EnterSpace technology.”
