BOSTON -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The list of payments innovators inductees and Lifetime Achievement Award recipient for the Payments Hall of Fame™ were announced today in Boston. They are:
2013 Payments Hall of Fame Inductees
•James Goodfellow | Inventor of the PIN technology
•Max Levchin | Web-based general purpose payments
•Philip J. Purcell | Founder, Discover Card
2013 Payments Lifetime Achievement Award
•Dee Hock | Founder, Visa
The first annual Payments Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held live during the 2013 PYMNTS Innovator Awards Dinner at Annenberg Hall on the Campus of Harvard University on March 21, 2013. The ceremony is by invitation only and open to The Innovation Project delegates and invited guests.
The recipients of the awards this year were selected by David Evans, Founder of Market Platform Dynamics, and Richard Schmalensee, the former Dean of the Sloan School at MIT. They are long-time chroniclers of the development of the industry and authors of Paying with Plastic: The Digital Revolution in Buying and Borrowing, which has become the bible of the payments industry.
David Evans, Chairman of the Payments Hall of Fame 2013 Nomination Process said, “The four inductees made revolutionary contributions to how consumers and merchants transact with each other and changed the face of payments around the globe. Still, there’s such a deep bench in payments visionaries still alive that it was tough narrowing it down to these four.”
All inductees will ultimately be represented on PaymentsHallofFame.com, which is a virtual repository that exists to raise awareness of the history and continuing significance of payments innovators to the future of this dynamic industry. The site is still under construction; so for now, to learn more about the Payments Hall Of Fame, visit http://theinnovationproject2013.com/the-payments-hall-of-fame-inductees-announced/.

About The Innovation Project
Over 2 days, 100 speakers and 500 invited senior members of the payments industry will change the way that the payments and its broader commerce ecosystem thinks, talks, delivers and ignites innovation. On March 20th and 21st the greatest minds in commerce and payments will assemble at Harvard University near Boston to kick the conversation about innovation up to an entirely different level at a program called The Innovation Project. Speakers and delegates are among the most senior executives from literally every established payments company worldwide, along with the CEOs of the most innovative start-ups from Adyen to iZettle. One of its five modules includes pairing industry CEOs with external thought leaders such as Al Gore (former U.S. VP), Steve Levitt (Freakonomics), Eric Ries (The Lean Startup), Rosie Rios (U.S. Treasurer), Russell Simmons (RushCard), Raj Date (CFPB), and Josh Lerner (Architecture of Innovation) to challenge the conventional wisdom around what it will take to get merchants and consumers to adopt new ways to shop and pay. Warren Buffett is the program’s keynote. The Innovation Project also hosts the industry’s 2013 PYMNTS.com Innovator Awards, given to 15 of the industry’s top innovators over dinner, which this year will be emceed by B.J. Novak of The Office and will introduce delegates to 41 of the hottest “next generation” payments innovators.
