MILPITAS, Calif. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Aquantia, the leading developer of High Speed Ethernet connectivity solutions for cloud computing and large-scale data center deployments, announced today that it will participate in the GSA Entrepreneurship Conference, to be held at the British Museum in London on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Phil Delansay, Aquantia’s vice president of business development, will be part of a panel discussion titled “Success Stories in Funding, IPOs and M&As” at 3:30 p.m.
The GSA Entrepreneurship Conference, produced by the Global Semiconductor Alliance, explores how semiconductor businesses are successfully securing funding and completing IPOs, mergers and acquisitions. Aquantia, which was founded in 2004, has raised close to $140 million in six rounds of funding from a broad range of tier-1 venture partners, including New Enterprise Associates, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Greylock Venture Partners, Pinnacle Ventures and RUSNANO, as well as a number of strategic investors including LSI, and Venture Tech Alliance. Aquantia’s last financing was a $40-million Series F funding round completed in May 2012. In addition, Aquantia acquired the 10GBASE-T assets of PLX Technology (NASDAQ:PLXT) in September 2012, increasing its footprint in the market and broadening its patent portfolio.
“Aquantia’s ability to turn its unique and industry-leading 10GBASE-T technology into business success has attracted the investment of the most recognized and forward-looking venture capital firms and strategic partners in the sector,” Delansay said. “As we continue to drive the fast adoption of our silicon solutions in data center environments, we look forward to sharing our successful funding experience with the GSA community.”
The trends towards mobile, video and cloud continue to accelerate, creating an unprecedented migration and consolidation of data into large-scale data centers. Simultaneously, the virtualization of servers continues to increase rapidly, creating even more demand for faster LAN interfaces. In 2012, major server OEMs released a new class of 10GBASE-T capable servers using the powerful Xeon E5 processors, creating a combination of high-performance processing and high-speed I/O, allowing the deployment of a new generation of 10GE infrastructure. The launch of these 10GBASE-T servers, together with a broad range of 10GBASE-T based switches marked the beginning of the transition of this technology to mass deployment.
Aquantia is playing a critical role in this transformation, having delivered the world’s most mature, lowest power and smallest footprint 40nm 10GBASE-T PHY in production, for high-density switches, and the world’s only 10GBASE-T solution for LAN-on-Motherboard (LOM) servers. As Jag Bolaria, senior analyst at The Linley Group, recently stated, Aquantia has quickly established itself as the leader in 10GBASE-T semiconductors within this growing market segment, culminating in the company’s January 2013 milestone of shipping a cumulative 1 million 10GBASE-T ports.
As more products from OEMs have recently been made available, the growth for 10GBASE-T is set to accelerate in the coming quarters, as evidenced also by the latest forecast from Crehan Research, which is projecting that more than 5 million 10GBASE-T ports will ship in the year 2013. The combined market share of data center-class switching OEMs having a 10GBASE-T offering for their core products now stands at a staggering 95 percent, completing the swath of server products offered with that interface.
