LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 19, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- A new mobile app aimed at opening the lines of communication between physician and patient will soon be available for download to both Android and Apple users. The My Rehab Pro app was designed to create a seamless engagement between orthopedic physicians, their patients, and the patient's physical therapist.
With the goal of optimizing better health outcomes for patients, the My Rehab Pro app empowers patients to take a more active role in the improvement of their health by allowing them to view specific exercises and rehabilitation programs through customized videos on their smart phones.
The app came to fruition after Kirk Howell, founder and CEO of My Rehab Pro LLC, experienced a frustrating recovery program when his son incurred a knee injury. Howell was perplexed at what he called, "A lack of engagement from the physician and physical therapists when his son brought home a folder filled with stick men exercises."
My Rehab Pro offers a solution by allowing physicians to customize a plan within the mobile app for each patient's specific rehabilitation needs. Reminders can be set to ensure the patient doesn't miss a treatment and doctors can log in to check the status of the patient's plan.
Dr. Robert Goodin M.D., a board certified orthopedic surgeon in Louisville, KY, says the app will complement a patient's physical therapy program. "As a rule, patients usually remember only 40-50% of what is discussed in any single office visit and a similar percentage during any physical therapy session. The physician will benefit through office efficiency, which should result in fewer phone calls from patients seeking information about their medical condition. That information will now be available at their fingertips through the My Rehab Pro app."
Howell believes, "Everyone deserves better health recovery outcomes. To achieve this, patients and their physicians need to stay better connected throughout the entire healthcare process, and the My Rehab Pro app allows that to happen."
My Rehab Pro will be at the AAOS Annual Meeting in Chicago on March 19-23. Look for them at booth 2415.
