ANAHEIM, Calif. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Micram Instruments is demonstrating its new AWG3420 Dual Channel Arbitrary Waveform Generator at this week’s Optical Fiber Conference and Exposition. Powered by the world record-setting Micram VEGA DAC II digital to analog converter, the AWG3420 combines ultrafast speed, high bandwidth and the unique versatility of two output channels in the same enclosure.

“We’ve had a very enthusiastic response since we introduced our first UltraFast AWG a year ago,” said Matthias Tom Frei, CEO of Micram Instruments. “One of the first questions asked by customers was: ‘Can we get two output channels in one box?’ With the AWG3420, we’re answering that question with a resounding ‘Yes!’ and at the same time introducing a new, highly sophisticated hardware architecture that will enable us to deliver even higher performance in the near future.”

Speed, Flexibility and Control

The Micram Instruments AWG3420 Dual Channel and AWG3410 Single Channel Arbitrary Waveform Generators deliver extraordinary sampling performance, enabling researchers and engineers to generate high order complex modulation formats, such as 16QAM, 32QAM and OFDM. With its innovative Making Waves™ GUI, which now incorporates a MATLAB programming interface, the dual channel AWG3420 brings both ultrafast performance and a completely new level of configuration and programming flexibility to the most demanding measurement challenges.

New Universal Signal Processing Architecture

With the AWG3420, Micram Instruments is introducing its new Universal Signal Processing Architecture (USPA). In addition to providing for two output channels in a single enclosure, USPA enables important new features including a 400% increase in memory depth, 20GHz analog bandwidth (typical), a Gigabit Ethernet interface providing a faster programming channel, field upgradable firmware and support for future multiple unit synchronization of up to 8 AWG systems.

“With USPA we can deliver a more powerful, more feature rich AWG today,” said Federico Lipparini, Product Strategist for Micram Instruments. “However, the real value of USPA is that it will enable us to deliver much faster, more powerful instruments with even greater bandwidth in the very near future, without any change to our core hardware design. As the Micram design team in Germany creates faster generations of VEGA silicon, USPA will get that power into the hands of customers very quickly.”
