BELLEVUE, Wash. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Today, Puget Sound Energy premiered the first episode of Re-Energized by Design, a weekly online series following six PSE families going head-to-head in five ruthless energy-efficient room makeover challenges. Each week, viewers can follow the drama as contestants combine brave design choices and tight budgets to create energy-efficient ideas, transforming each room into what is supposed to be a stunning, functional and efficient space.
Scoring each week on who is fabulous and who is just flat is a panel of three local celebrity judges; society and event photographer Duell Fisher, 425 and South Sound Magazine Editor Lisa Patterson and radio personality Marty Reimer. After each challenge the lowest-scoring contestant is eliminated. Viewers can tune in at PSE.com/ReEnergizedByDesign to watch the action and join the energy and design conversation.
“Each of the competing PSE families brings their ‘A’ game to this fun but grueling competition,” said Lisa Patterson, Re-Energized by Design judge. “With a $5,000 grand prize on the line, no one can play it safe. If their risks don’t impress – they’re out! This series shows viewers inexpensive and creative design ideas that make energy-efficient upgrades look like a million bucks.”
The six contestant families competing in Re-Energized by Design rose to the top during an intense selection process, which included submitting videos, a public vote to select 10 finalists and final interviews.
Each contestant has their own “contestant cam” and works with a film crew to document their sweat and drama as they complete room makeover projects in the bathroom, office or garage, living room, laundry room and kitchen. Each contestant is also working with a design coach who provides expert advice to keep their team one step ahead of the competition. The cast of design coaches includes:
For each room challenge, contestants receive free energy-efficient light emitting diode (LED) and compact fluorescent light (CFL) lighting from GE and a small stipend to spend. The stakes are raised as contestants’ advance, with the final three contestants winning a high-efficiency clothes washer and matching dryer from Frigidaire, and the final two contestants winning a Frigidaire Ultra Efficient Kitchen with a refrigerator, dishwasher, range and microwave. The last contestant standing will win a $5,000 prize.
“Viewers are going to be amazed by the talent and creativity demonstrated by the contestants and their design coaches,” said Duell Fisher, Re-Energized by Design judge. “It’s been very difficult to decide who will be eliminated. Sometimes it came down to that little extra thing the contestant did to stand out. I guarantee that it will be a nail-biter to the last episode.”
