Astute Networks, Inc., a leading provider of bladed storage solutions optimized for the most demanding applications on the edge of the network, today announced that the company’s Caspian Edge Storage Blade product line has achieved Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) Level 3 certification, a rigorous measure of network product excellence. Additionally, the products have been certified to meet the requirements of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) for telecommunications equipment providers in the European region. Astute Networks’ Caspian Edge Storage Blades are the industry’s first NEBS-certified ATCA storage blades.
The NEBS certification process involves an extensive suite of tests designed to evaluate network equipment in a variety of possible environmental conditions associated with telecommunications facilities. The Caspian products were measured for operation under NEBS GR-63-CORE Requirements for Physical Protection, NEBS GR-1089-CORE Requirements for Electromagnetic Compatibility and Electrical Safety and ETSI EN 300 386 Requirements for Electromagnetic Compatibility. The series of tests simulate extreme environmental conditions including temperature, humidity and altitude as well as earthquake, vibration, electromagnetic interference and electrostatic discharge. The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) produces globally-applicable standards for information and communications technologies, including fixed, mobile, radio, converged, broadcast and internet technologies.
The set of Caspian Edge Storage Blades was tested in a standard telecommunications rack mount configuration with a Sun Netra CT900 ATCA Blade Server, the industry's fastest, densest ATCA server which allows users to mix and match processors and operating systems with up to 12 blades in one server.
“We are pleased that Astute Networks has passed the rigorous NEBS and ETSI certifications for their Caspian Edge Storage Blade products,” said Raju Penumatcha, Vice President, Netra Systems and Networking, Sun Microsystems Inc. “By combining the Caspian with the Sun Netra CT900 ATCA Blade Server, telco carriers and network equipment providers can realize all the benefits of ATCA technology with the assurance of a NEBS-certified network solution.”
“The NEBS and ETSI certifications provide industry validation of the high standards to which we have designed our Caspian products,” said Keith Klarer, Vice President of Hardware Engineering, Astute Networks, Inc. “We can now provide our customers with the utmost assurance that our products are reliable and will remain operational in the most challenging of environments.”
