CARLSBAD, Calif., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Breach Security, Inc. (http://www.breach.com/), the leader in web application integrity, security and compliance, announced today that its flagship web application security appliance, WebDefend(TM)(http://www.breach.com/products/webdefend.html), earned a five-star review in the Firewalls Group Test (http://www.scmagazineus.com/Breach-Security-WebDefend/Review/2676/), published in the January 2009 issue of SC Magazine. WebDefend was recognized for many different levels of protection, including its dynamic profiling, exit control and application defect detection features, as well as its performance, ease of use and support packages.

Led by Justin Peltier, senior security consultant with Peltier & Associates, the comparative review focused on "the improvements to the firewall over the last 12 years." Each product was tested on a five-point scale based on the following categories: features, ease of use, performance, documentation, support, and value for the money.

According to the review, WebDefend is "a worthy product" that "protects the organization in many ways" and offers "features on top of features." WebDefend earned the highest possible score for features, performance and support, and garnered top marks for ease of use, documentation and value- securing an overall rating of five out of five stars.

"The threat landscape has evolved dramatically over the past few years with attacks now focused on web sites and application-layer vulnerabilities. With the webification of mission-critical business applications, an organization's most sensitive data and customer information is increasingly at risk," said Mike Pierce, CEO, Breach Security, Inc. "Receiving five stars in this month's SC Magazine firewall group review is validation of WebDefend's ability to prevent known and unknown web threats, while also ensuring legitimate web site visitors have a positive end user experience and successful web transactions."

SC Magazine review highlights of WebDefend, include:

- - Dynamic profiling -- automatically "builds a profile of each application," and "includes web requests, protocol usage, session management and input validation."

- - Collaboration detection engine -- "is made up of a behavior analysis engine, which looks for abnormal usage patterns and signature analysis. This uses intelligent analysis to block known and unknown web application attacks."

- - Exit control and application defect detection -- "Exit control monitors for patterns, such as a credit card or Social Security number, and the application defect engine protects the organization from programming errors."
