MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- GENEDGE ALLIANCE, in cooperation with The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission (TIC), was recently awarded a matching fund grant totaling more than $120,000 to fund an Innovation Commercialization Project to accelerate high technology economic growth and support job increases for the region.
Capps Shoe Company, Inc. is utilizing the grant’s project assistance to design and produce two military style boots – an 8” Safety Toe Boot for the U.S. Coast Guard, and a Rugged All Terrain (RAT) Boot for the USMC. This may result in commercial retail sales of boots to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), base military exchanges, E-Commerce, and domestic and international retail sales. Capps Shoe Company is headquartered in Lynchburg, and has a manufacturing facility in Gretna, Virginia that produces military & uniform shoes, steel toe shoes along with dress & casual shoes.
President & CEO Tom Capps stated, “We are very pleased that GENEDGE and the Tobacco Commission will be supporting our efforts in developing two new boots for the Marine Corps and the Coast Guard, which will incorporate the latest technology regarding both materials and construction, enabling the possibility of additional jobs not only for Capps Shoe Company, but for Pittsylvania County as well.”
GENEDGE Interim Executive Director Bill Donohue adds, "We are pleased to assist Capps Shoe Company with this new market opportunity. Capps Shoe Company is a high quality American manufacturer located here in Virginia, and we applaud their progressive approach to growth."
“Once again, a manufacturer in our region is leading the way in developing a quality, state-of-the-art product that will make a positive difference for its users and for the people who produce it," declared Delegate Kathy J. Byron. "The Tobacco Commission is proud to be able to do its part to make this opportunity for business growth and expansion in our region a reality.
