TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- This summer is the worst nightmare for Windows 8 on tablets.
Only lazy journalists and bloggers haven't written an obituary on Windows 8 on tablets for the last month. After huge writing-off of 900 million dollars for unsold Surfaces RT, Microsoft Corp. reported that total revenue from the tablet sales is just 853 million. This is less than the marketing budget.
By estimate of IDC, share of tablet supplies in the 2(nd) quarter doesn't exceed 4.5% comparing to share of iOS and Android - 32.5% and 62.6% accordingly. But this is not the end. Several OEM vendors refused producing Windows RT based tablets. The most high profile incident is the unconditional refusal of ASUS from this platform. And NVidia lowered its outlook for profit from the Tegra processors by 40% because of the low Surface demand. Epic fail!
In such conditions, would a reasonable software vendor stop development of its products for Windows Store? One could say that this is the only right decision. Nevertheless software vendors don't jump to conclusions.
One of such vendors is Aphalina. It markets Grapholite, a diagram and flowchart designer for tablets. The application was announced together with Windows 8 and since that time it's settled down in the top paid category of business apps and its user rating is 4.5+.
Company representatives think that Windows devices are ideal for those who not only consume the content but also create it. Its small market share is related not to low quality of the operating system or devices, but to the fact that there are much more content consumers than creators.
"We've just announced a new version of our product for Windows Store and continue investing in its development", says chief product developer Eugene Akinshin. "The latest version contains all features available in the desktop version of the software .Though we kept simple user interface equally optimized for touch, stylus and mouse."
Grapholite is able to create all types of business graphics including flowcharts, org charts, UML, BPMN, mind maps, SWOT and TQM diagrams, and much more. Intellectual layout mechanism creating minimum intersections and avoiding elements overlapping along with hundreds of pre-designed shapes make the creation of diagrams a simple task. All control elements are context aware and appear on the screen only when a user needs it. Support for "Share Charm", printing and export ability makes it easy to share and collaborate on the created diagrams.
Grapholite has passed multiple tests for compliance with the requirements to the software used on the touch oriented and sensor enabled Windows 8 devices within the Intel Software Partner program and showed great results.
The fact that Intel hardly promotes Windows 8 and compatible devices including tablets makes smaller companies confident that investing in this technology is worth and promising.
