Largest applicant moves further toward delegation of new generic top-level domains
BELLEVUE, Wash., Aug. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Donuts Inc., a registry for new generic top-level domains (gTLDs), has completed three additional significant steps toward launch of its applied-for gTLDs.
The company said all of its pending gTLD applications have passed Initial Evaluation, an exhaustive review process that determines the financial and technical fitness of an applicant.
Donuts has also successfully completed pre-delegation testing. These tests ensure a registry's technical operations meet the criteria in the Applicant Guidebook, the standard for applicant registries.
Finally, the company said as of yesterday, it signed an additional 12 registry agreements with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the administrator of the Internet's addressing system. These ten-year agreements grant Donuts management over the following gTLDs, the first of several of hundred gTLDs Donuts will introduce over the next 12 months:
-- .BIKE -- .CAMERA -- .CLOTHING -- .EQUIPMENT -- .ESTATE -- .GURU -- .HOLDINGS -- .LIGHTING -- .SINGLES -- .VENTURES -- .VOYAGE -- (.ENTERPRISE, in Simplified Chinese script)
"This is another step forward in the eight-year process leading to new gTLDs," said Donuts CEO and co-founder Paul Stahura. "The current namespace, including .COM, is overburdened and in need of fresh, relevant choices. We look forward to helping to provide that in the coming months."
