SAN JOSE, Calif. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- More than 150 employees of the U.S. Samsung Semiconductor division of Samsung Electronics are expected to join in Samsung’s third annual “Gears of Giving” charity drive this Friday. All proceeds will go to the renowned St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
There will be three concurrent excursions – two kilometers for walkers, five kilometers for runners, and a 10-kilometer trek for bicyclists, all along the Coyote Creek Trail in Silicon Valley. The trek will involve the research and development, sales and marketing branches of the company.
“This is a very meaningful way for Samsung and its employees to contribute to a tremendous cause – helping the countless children in need that St. Jude’s research benefits year after year,” said Scott Birnbaum, vice president and executive sponsor of the CSR program at Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. “Thanks to charitable efforts like this, no family pays St. Jude anything for the care of their child.”
Samsung’s donations here assist in basic and clinical research for children’s disease cures and treatment. St. Jude’s treats children from around the country and welcomes more than 7,800 patients seeking medical assistance each year.
Samsung is matching Gears for Giving employee donations dollar-for-dollar. Others are encouraged to donate by visiting the St. Jude site. Donors can simply click on the foundation link for the Samsung Gears for Giving event to specify a donation amount.
The Samsung Gears for Giving trek will take place on at 2 p.m., Friday, October 18. Those interested can follow us on Twitter @SamsungSemiUS #gearsforgiving.
