NEW YORK -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America today announced the launch of a new online resource designed to help individuals to start thinking about and planning for retirement.
The website, www.myretirementwalk.com, is a consumer-oriented educational site that offers tools, infographics and guidance for people at various life stages. Its main feature is an animated, interactive experience that provides financial planning and retirement insights based on life’s major milestones, such as a person’s very first job out of college, mid-career promotions, marriage, starting a family, buying a home and preparing for retirement.
Visitors can select an avatar based on age and gender and then guide that avatar on a simulated “walk.” The site offers advice about saving, managing debt and planning for the future for each stage of life.
While consumers at all stages of life will find the site useful, My Retirement Walk is also an engagement tool for financial professionals looking to start more meaningful conversations with clients and prospects about retirement and financial planning. At a time when only 13 percent of Americans report that they are very confident they will have enough money to live comfortably in retirement – according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute’s 2013 Retirement Confidence Survey – it is essential that financial professionals confront head-on the educational and planning needs of their clients. My Retirement Walk offers an engaging and informative tool to start this process.
“My Retirement Walk is a testament to Guardian’s ongoing campaign to help Americans increase their financial knowledge-base and prepare properly for a successful retirement,” said Doug Dubitsky, Guardian’s Vice President of Product Management & Development for Retirement Solutions. “The site will serve as a powerful financial literacy and retirement planning resource for financial professionals, plan sponsors and plan participants alike.”
Guardian developed the website and tools in collaboration with behavioral finance expert Dr. Daniel Crosby. Because it is often difficult for individuals to break free of their day-to-day responsibilities in order to focus on future financial needs, Dr. Crosby and Guardian leveraged the principles of behavioral finance to ensure the My Retirement Walk site is an entertaining educational tool. The site is designed to inspire people to think about their futures without feeling overwhelmed – and educated consumers are more likely to take action, especially when they can clearly envision themselves older and in retirement.
One of My Retirement Walk’s main features is a blog feed dedicated to a wide range of retirement oriented topics. Dr. Crosby is the blog’s main contributor and, along with other authors, will offer insights and observations on issues such as how to drive better retirement outcomes, how to develop attainable action plans for retirement saving and how to set financial goals for each of life’s stages. Many of the tools including infographics, articles, and calculators can be found through the resources tab on the site.
