SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- First Databank (FDB), the leading provider of clinical drug knowledge that helps improve medication-related decisions and patient outcomes, will gather preeminent health industry leaders and drug knowledge experts at the 2013 FDB Customer Seminar from November 6 - 8, in Miami, Florida.
The two-and-a-half day annual user conference brings together FDB customers and healthcare industry experts to discuss issues and challenges in using FDB drug knowledge within healthcare information systems serving hospitals, physician practices, retail pharmacy, payers (health plans, PBMs) and more. The main focus of the educational sessions include strategies for achieving Meaningful Use, addressing alert fatigue in EHR systems, the role of standardized vocabulary in interoperable exchange and quality reporting, e-prescribing, and new drug pricing benchmarks. A complete program can be viewed online.
Keynoting the conference is Abraham Verghese, MD, MACP, Professor and Senior Associate Chair for the Theory and Practice of Medicine, Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Verghese is a best-selling author of three books; his most recent, Cutting For Stone, has been translated into 16 languages and remained on the New York Times bestseller list for over 110 weeks.
A sought-after speaker at forums across the globe, Dr. Verghese’s message is a continuing emphasis on the patient-physician relationship and its vital place in the practice of medicine. His emphasis on empathy and healing will be the focus of his presentation, as he stresses the importance of the patient-physician relationship in an era of advances in medical technology that tend to depersonalize medical care.
Guest presenters from across the United States will demonstrate how FDB customers, and their end users, have implemented FDB drug knowledge within EMR/EHR, CPOE, EMAR, retail pharmacy, payer, mobile health, and other critical healthcare applications. FDB staff will also present ways to optimize use of FDB drug knowledge in today’s HIT applications and new innovations from FDB including cloud-based API services. The event also serves as a forum for FDB customers to consult in-person with FDB’s drug knowledge implementation team and learn first-hand of FDB product development roadmap and future innovations from the FDB Innovation Lab.
“Our customers consistently tell us that the FDB seminar exposes them to some of the best ideas, provides an exchange of critical, ‘hard-to-get’ information about real-world problems and implementations, and creates the foundation for lasting relationships with experts across the industry,” said Chuck Tuchinda, MD, MBA, executive vice president, FDB. “Our primary goal is to ensure our customer’s success in using our drug knowledge so we are pleased to once again bring FDB customers, industry thought leaders and staff together in this our 26th year of hosting these forums.”
