CHICAGO, Dec. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Zacks Equity Research highlights Artisan Partners Asset Management (NYSE:APAM-Free Report) as the Bull of the Day and SurModics (Nasdaq:SRDX-Free Report) as the Bear of the Day. In addition, Zacks Equity Research provides analysis ontheComcast Corp. (Nasdaq:CMCSA-Free Report), AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T-Free Report) and Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE:TWC-Free Report).
Here is a synopsis of all five stocks:
One financial industry group that does especially well during bull markets is the asset managers. Not only do their funds rise with equity prices, but they tend to attract more new investment money and generate more revenues in a virtuous spiral.
If, that is, they are performing in line with their index benchmarks. Or better yet, leaving them behind.
BlackRock, Affiliated Mangers Group and the private equity princes Blackstone and Apollo Global have all been at least Zacks #2 Rank stocks this year and their stock investors have been rewarded with steady returns, just like their institutional ones.
I make a habit of paying attention to these money masters every day for my Follow The Money (FTM) trading service which tracks institutional buying in growth stocks. And another name that pops up quite frequently in my screening and digging through the SEC filings just went public this year and is our Zacks #1 Rank Bull of the Day.
Artisan Partners Asset Management (NYSE:APAM-Free Report) is a $4.2 billion investment management firm that provides a range of active, global equity strategies. The firm manages $97 billion in investments for other institutions primarily through mutual funds and separate accounts.
Its clients include pension and profit sharing plans, trusts, endowments, foundations, charitable organizations, government entities, private funds and non-U.S. pooled investment vehicles. Artisan prefers its clients to have an allocation structure and process that lends itself to longer-term investing, and has turned away some "faster" money funds.
SurModics (Nasdaq:SRDX-Free Report) is a leading provider of surface modification technologies in the areas of biocompatibility, site specific drug delivery, biological cell encapsulation, and medical diagnostics.
SurModics partners with the world's foremost medical device, pharmaceutical and life science companies to bring innovation together for better patient outcomes. Recent collaborative efforts include the implementation of SurModics' Bravo drug delivery polymer matrix as a key component of the first-to-market drug-eluting coronary stent.
SurModics is also active in the ophthalmology market with a sustained drug delivery system that is currently in human trials for treatment of retinal disease. A significant portion of SurModics' revenue is generated by royalties earned from the sale of customers' commercial products.
The company reported its fourth quarter fiscal year 2013 results last month and the results were mixed, with weaker forward guidance the main catalyst for analysts to cut estimates and push the stock to a #5. For fiscal 2013, SurModics reported earnings of 85 cents per share, 29% higher than last year, but short of the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 2 cents.
Comcast Leading IPv6 Race
Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq:CMCSA-Free Report), the largest cable MSO in the U.S., recently claimed that the company is well ahead of its competitors to deploy the IPv6 network. Recently the Internet Society (ISOC) also stated that Comcast currently handles the most IPv6 traffic on a daily basis.
ISOC ranks network operators by the percentage of IPv6 traffic they carry coupled with the percentage of network deployment. Comcast currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
Cable TV rival Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE:TWC-Free Report) is far behind with scores of 3.4%. Comcast currently covers more than 75% of its broadband footprint with IPv6 and is expected to achieve full compatibility by early 2014.
At present, Comcast primarily uses wireless gateway modems of Arris Enterprises, namely, the TG852G and TG862G series products for IPv6 deployment. It was crucial for Comcast to deliver uninterrupted IP-based services as the existing IPv4 address space is quickly approaching exhaustion.
IPv6 Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP), Prefix Delegation and Prefix Stability are some of the major features of the IPv6 protocol stack supported by Arris' C4 CMTS platform.
Comcast is expecting to enhance IPv6 traffic flow to a large extent in 2014. Currently it reaches approximately 4 million broadband subscribers.
