SEATTLE -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- SMITH, a Seattle-based independent digital experience agency, announced their development of the Amtrak app for Windows Phone. In fiscal year 2013 alone, Amtrak carried a record 31.6 million passengers. SMITH designed and built the Windows Phone app and ensured seamless integration with Amtrak systems. This new experience brings new features, is optimized to capitalize on current Amtrak initiatives and lays the foundation for future innovations.
“We are committed to delivering our customers convenience on their smartphone,” says Arthur Agin, Director, Mobile eCommerce at Amtrak. “It’s important to go where our customers are, that is why we worked with SMITH and Microsoft to bring our free Amtrak application to Windows Phone.”
Amtrak for Windows Phone delivers features similar to those enjoyed by Amtrak customers using their iPhone and Android applications, including the ability to buy and have the e-ticket delivered directly to their phone – or to cancel or exchange that same ticket.
“We were thrilled with the opportunity to work with Microsoft and Amtrak on this initiative,” said SMITH president Tony Marinelli. “It was an exciting challenge bringing the Amtrak Application to Windows Phone, the interface proved to be a perfect match to create a great experience for their customers.”
“Apps come to life on Windows Phone thanks to features like Live Tiles,” said Todd Brix, general manager, Windows Apps and Store, Microsoft Corp. “Amtrak takes advantage of Live Tiles to get trip reminders directly on their Start screens, saving time and managing trips on the go.”
With the addition of the Windows Phone® application, Amtrak customers can get simple and intuitive access to all the travel information they need, whenever they need it. More information about Amtrak applications can be found at Amtrak.com/mobile.
