BOSTON -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Jeff Moriarty, vice president of digital products for The Boston Globe and general manager for Boston.com, is leaving next month to take a new job as chief digital and product officer at Johnston Press in the United Kingdom.
Andrew Perlmutter, executive vice president of Boston Globe Media Partners (BGMP), will assume oversight of digital business across the company, in addition to his work with owner John Henry and senior managers on core BGMP strategic and operational initiatives.
Moriarty, who joined the Globe in 2010, led a number of digital initiatives, including the launch of the award-winning BostonGlobe.com in September 2011 and the continued development of Boston.com, one of the strongest regional websites in the nation.
“BostonGlobe.com and Boston.com are in an excellent position and in good hands with a digital team that has done excellent work to get us where we are today -- with two innovative sites that are the best at what they do,” Moriarty said. Johnston Press is one of the UK and Ireland’s fastest growing media groups, with 250 newspapers and 196 local websites.
Since joining BGMP in November 2013, Perlmutter has worked broadly to identify, explore, and develop revenue growth opportunities and partnerships, both internally and externally. “I’m excited about the opportunities ahead,” Perlmutter said. “Jeff has built a highly skilled digital team, and I’m looking forward to working alongside them to build on our strengths and set us up for continued growth. The digital landscape is marked by rapid-fire change, and we know we cannot rest on our laurels.”
Perlmutter brings significant digital media experience and expertise. He came to BGMP from The Newsweek/Daily Beast Company, where he transitioned Newsweek into a digital-only property in the run up to the sale of Newsweek. Before that, he served as director of corporate strategy and operations for the Atlantic Media Company, where he led the development and incubation of Quartz.
Moriarty’s last day at The Globe will be Feb. 7.
