DALLAS -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Accudata Technologies (Accudata), provider of flexible access to data validation through innovative approaches to data transmission, announced today the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 8,625,762 for the use of providing additional information to called parties. The patent, entitled “System, Method, and Computer Readable Medium for Providing Enhanced Automatic Number Identification Functionality,” was issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Jan. 7.

“I’m extremely proud of the advancements in technology that we’ve achieved through the years,” said Greg Smith, president and CEO, Accudata Technologies. “Our creativity and innovation are evident in the patents we’ve received, which now include a portfolio of 13.”

The patent provides a method for providing additional information to a called party in a communications network. For instance, a call is received from a calling party. Then, with the patent, a lookup of information relating to the calling party is performed in a database via an Internet Protocol (IP) connection. The lookup is based on an identifier which includes at least one of the calling party and the called party. If the information is located in the database it will be provided to the called party.

The information related to the calling party may be a name, city, state, address, hyperlink, photo, video or any information that can be sent via an IP connection.

“The new patent has a wide range of potential uses including the ability to share the physical location of a cell phone as well as the ability to send alerts that pertain to specific events,” Smith said. “Say a called party has ordered a refill of a prescription. The pharmacy could send information about the status of the prescription, operating hours and location of the pharmacy, potential allergic reactions to the prescription, websites for additional information and more. Health records could also easily be transferred from patients to doctors.

“Another alternative may include sharing situational data from an emergency service provider, such as the police or fire department. For example, a tornado may be heading towards a called party. The emergency service provider may initiate a call indicating that a tornado is heading towards the residence. The message may include the emergency service provider's name and telephone number, location and speed of the tornado based on the latest data, directions to nearby tornado shelters or other information related to the event. The possibilities really are game-changing and endless!”

Accudata offers a variety of validation services associated with telephone numbers.
