LAS VEGAS -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The worlds of traditional media and citizen journalism have merged, shifting the roles and responsibilities of editors, journalists and bloggers alike. The 18th annual American Copy Editors Society (ACES) national conference, taking place March 20-22 in Las Vegas, will focus on meeting the evolving demands of editing in the digital world with sessions presented by some of the leading professionals in media, publishing, and writing and editing standards.

The three-day conference will feature more than 50 sessions that will elevate the skills of copy editors in all fields, from news, business and government to nonprofit, education and blogging. This year, more than 300 of the country’s leading writing and editing professionals will gather to learn and network with sessions such as “Competing with Integrity in a Buzzfeed World” presented by Mignon Fogarty (Grammar Girl) and “Rookie Mistakes That Even Veterans Make” from Bill Walsh of The Washington Post. A full list of conference sessions is available at www.vegas.copydesk.org/program/sessions.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing digital to the Las Vegas desert as we prepare for a conference that digs deeper into new territories of editing,” said ACES President Teresa Schmedding. “More than ever before, our conference represents the emerging roles that editors play in the world, and the emerging industries where editing has become a necessary tool.”

Conference sessions will be rounded out by a keynote from Craig Silverman, an award-winning journalist, content director at Spundge and author of “Regret the Error: How Media Mistakes Pollute the Press and Imperil Free Speech,” as well as extracurricular activities focused on networking and enjoying all that Las Vegas has to offer. One such activity, which is new to the conference lineup, is a spelling bee hosted by Peter Sokolowski, editor at large of Merriam-Webster Dictionaries, taking place the night before the conference kick-off, on March 19.
