BLOOMINGTON, MN -- (Marketwired) -- 02/18/14 -- MDI Achieve, provider of MatrixCare, the fastest growing Electronic Health Record solution for the long-term care continuum, announced its client, Benedictine Health System (BHS), has successfully implemented seamless electronic care transitions between BHS Participating Organization's EHR, MatrixCare, and Epic, the EHR of their hospital partner, Allina Health. This interoperability project was funded by an e-Health Connectivity Grant from the Minnesota Department of Health.
This project approached CCD exchange in a way that is unique to long-term care EHRs. Many vendors merely exchange PDF documents. While the information is valuable, it is only marginally better than faxing a document. MatrixCare exchanges structured and typed data that can be consumed as discrete data elements and used to drive clinical decision support by the system in the future. In addition, the data is generated on demand, reflecting the most current resident information available versus pulling data from the MDS file which can be days or weeks old.
MDI Achieve CEO John Damgaard commented, "We congratulate BHS on the completion of this project and are honored to be a part of it. Seamless business and technical collaboration between long-term care and acute care providers will be crucial to success as we enter the era of Accountable Care Organizations. MatrixCare's strong, standards-based interoperability is an essential tool for our providers in gaining operational efficiencies and broadening their participation in ACOs and HIEs."
"BHS is pleased to have completed this project," said BHS President/CEO, Rocklon B. Chapin. "We believe the exchange of data will result in benefits to our residents and to the health care system at large."
This project focused on the data exchange of the Continuity of Care Document (CCD) between Allina and BHS Participating Organization locations. Now any MatrixCare client will be able to exchange CCD information with any health care provider that has the ability to exchange CCD information, provided that the two entities have established a peer-to-peer connection or are members of the same HIE.
BHS has been a customer of MDI Achieve for over 20 years and the two organizations have worked closely together on a number of upgrades and software enhancement projects. MDI Achieve, BHS and other partners collaborated on a grant more than 10 years ago that enabled MDI Achieve to establish one of the first integrations between an EHR and pharmacy systems in the United States. BHS and Allina share a campus in Shakopee, Minn., and also have a long history of working together.
