BOULDER, Colo., March 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- History Spots, creator of the Story of Where(TM) mobile history app, has partnered with the Michigan Historical Center to publish and promote Michigan's unique cultural and natural history on smartphones and tablets. Story of Where contains an existing library of over 90,000 historically significant, geo-located heritage sites across North America, and will include over 3,000 Michigan state recognized sites and trails. The partnership will enable the Michigan Historical Center to extend its heritage library content onto the mobile web, providing a richer historical experience to Story of Where users by more than doubling the sites and content for Michigan within the app. With this addition, Story of Where will provide access to over 6,000 Michigan recognized sites including lighthouses, architecturally significant buildings, shipwrecks, underwater preserves, Michigan Historical Markers, heritage trails and historic places throughout the state.

Michigan Historical Center Director, Sandra Clark shared, "Michigan has a rich history of mining, lumbering, automotive manufacturing, Great Lakes shipping, sports and recreation. Our participation in Story of Where is going to help us make these stories and so many more accessible to people throughout the country. We see this as a great benefit to Michigan tourism and education."

The Story of Where application contains an application programming interface (API) which will enable the Michigan Historical Center to easily publish its content to the application and make it available to users. This plugin approach allows the Story of Where media platform to quickly and efficiently integrate with new data sources.

Launching Story of Where at this years' National Council for History Education conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, History Spots is looking to education development specialists, teachers and history education influencers to help shape Story of Where into a fun and social educational tool. By assisting educators and inspiring students, History Spots' Story of Where is serving as a foundational heritage platform for information discovery and place-based learning.

"Strategic partners like the Michigan Historical Center are key to our long term success," said Tom Bender, History Spots' Founder and CEO. "Our ability to innovate new products and provide new learning and revenue opportunities in the mobile marketplace is attractive to our customers, partners, and investors. We're thrilled to be working alongside professional historians and archivists, bringing critical authenticity and enthusiasm to our product."

The Michigan Historical Center and History Spots will work together to promote Story of Where and Michigan's rich cultural and natural history to improve heritage awareness, increase tourism and help preserve historical places to educate and inspire future generations.
