Land Rover asserts dominance over BWM with 2014 LR4

Companies mentioned in this article: Land Rover of San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, March 28, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Anyone who says Land Rover vehicles aren't at the top of the luxury SUV segment will have to answer to the staff at Land Rover of San Antonio. The award-winning Land Rover dealer is one of the top locations in the country for Land Rover education, sales and service. Because of the level of capability that each model of Land Rover vehicle is built with, they were bound to attract the attention of other luxury automakers; in this case BMW. While BMW may know a thing or two about excellent luxury sedans and sport coupes, getting off the pavement and into the mud remains the domain of the Land Rover LR4.

Land Rover of San Antonio recently added to their Land Rover Model Comparison Tool by pitting the 2014 Land Rover LR4 vs. the 2014 BMW X5. Both vehicles are set up to seat five passengers, but from there the differences get more and more drastic with each category. Make no mistake; the BMW X5 is a very handsomely styled vehicle that makes for a great family mover and daily driver. It has all of the features that commuters would want. On paper, the BMW X5 makes for an excellent rival for the Land Rover LR4. That's where the old cliché about "the best laid plans of mice and men" comes to fruition.

Straightaway, the power plants that reside under the hoods of the LR4 and X5 begin a very telling story that ends in almost total domination for the Land Rover SUV. The 2014 LR4 has a supercharged, 3.0-liter, V-6 engine that is capable of turning out 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. All of this power is able to propel the LR4 to a top speed of 121 miles per hour with a zero to 60 mph time of 7.7 seconds, according to Land Rover. Additionally, the geometry of the LR4 allows for it to take on some of the most demanding terrain you can throw at it. By comparison, the 2014 BMW X5 has a turbocharged, 3.0-liter, V-6 that is rated for a top power output of just 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. This is certainly a lot of power for a crossover SUV; however, several online reviews have said that the X5 is more at home on the road than off of it.
