NEW YORK, April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Astronauts Wanted. No Experience Necessary, the joint venture between Judy McGrath and Sony Music Entertainment, today announced that Billy Parks, EVP Digital Production and Programming at The Chernin Group (TCG), is joining as Chief Content Officer.
Parks brings to Astronauts Wanted impressive producer credits across multiple entertainment platforms. He will develop and produce a rich pipeline of series and branded content aimed at young, social-savvy consumers.
"Billy's talent as a creative storyteller is perfect for Astronauts Wanted as we look to engage young people in bold new ways," said McGrath. "He has a unique understanding of today's young adults and how they consume, create and share content. Engaging this generation of content creators is our mission. Billy will team with Nick Shore, our Chief Creative Strategist, to develop content with and for the new wave of social media stars."
At TCG, Parks co-created and served as Executive Producer of @Summerbreak, the pioneering real-time reality show about Southern California teens. Partnering with AT&T, the interactive series - the first of its kind to be distributed exclusively through social media - delivered more than 15 million views and 10 million engagements across social platforms.
Before TCG, Parks worked as an independent producer of commercials and music videos featuring premiere brands such as Honda, P&G, NFL and Microsoft, and leading artists including Rihanna, Beyonce, Kanye West, Prince, Miley Cyrus and Jay-Z. Parks also served as Director of New Media and Production at Quality Filmed Entertainment, supervising production of branded content, short films and web series distributed on HBO, Showtime and IFC. In addition, Parks served under Lucas Foster, former President of Production for Bruckheimer/Simpson.
Parks was named one of Advertising Age's "40 Under 40" in 2014, and was included in Variety Magazine's 2014 Reality Impact Report.
