SAN FRANCISCO -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Green Visor Capital, a venture capital firm focused exclusively on early stage financial technology companies, has announced that Sam Wen has joined as the firm's inaugural Entrepreneur In Residence (EIR). Sam is a member of the founding team at Square, the revolutionary mobile commerce platform and point-of-sale system for small merchants and individuals.
At Square, Sam was responsible for helping create the swipe algorithm and hardware that powers the credit card reading capabilities of all Square devices on iOS and Android enabled phones and tablets. Sam’s contributions to the team helped lead to seven issued patents and one patent pending. Prior to Square, Sam worked for Boeing as a munitions systems engineer. Sam holds a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis.
Simon Yoo, Founder and Managing Partner of Green Visor Capital, noted: “It is no exaggeration to say that Square, one of Silicon Valley's most important fintech startups, would not be possible without Sam's contributions. Sam is not only a gifted engineer, but a person of unwavering integrity and uncommon humility. Equally important, Sam, like the rest of the team, wants to make a positive difference in the world through technological innovation. The members of Green Visor Capital are honored and delighted to have Sam as a part of our family.”
Sam Wen added: “I am excited and honored to be joining the team as an EIR. Simon and the team are a group of passionate, principled investors with an eye for sustainable, responsible business. I am passionate about work that tangibly helps people better their lives, and couldn’t be more eager to put my skills to work with Green Visor Capital."
As an EIR, Sam will help the Green Visor team assess emerging technologies, work as an adviser to portfolio companies and mentor young engineers within the group.
