MENLO PARK, Calif., May 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Markerly, AdTech's 2014 winner, announced today the first ever read-meter which lets advertisers know whether or not a page view was a real read or a fake reader bot when advertising through Markerly. Markerly's read meter is the first to ever be released and will transform the way advertisers think about their dollars when purchasing ad space online.

For the past 2 years Markerly has been studying the micro-actions of over 300 million people and terabytes of data on blogs and publishers. Analysis of this data shows that 71% of page views on average are reader bots.

"Reader bots are serious and cost advertisers billions in lost advertising dollars every year. Prior to Markerly I was an engineer at a major advertising company where I saw these same trends and advertising dollars being wasted on bots. I'm proud to say that now we're setting the market standard for costs of branded content. Our read technology will continually improve and adapt to capture only those who recall what they've read," says Markerly co-founder and CTO, Rahf Noor.

Markerly's technology monitors the actions that readers take on a site. Reader bot activity is marked as true when a page closes without any mouse movement, either before a page loads or within a fraction of a second and usually from the same IP.

In order for Markerly's technology to mark a page load as a read, a person must engage with the content through several different actions such as text selection, pinching in on a mobile screen, copy & paste, heavy mouse scrolling, etc. You can demo Markerly's read meter here.

Markerly is using this technology to allow brands and agencies to buy sponsored content on a cost per read, rather than per post basis.

"Getting a post written doesn't matter if hardly anyone reads it. Brands are losing out when they don't demand that their advertising spends result in real reads, from real people," says Markerly CEO, Sarah Ware.
