WASHINGTON -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Chronus Corporation, a leading provider of talent development software, today announced that Daimler Trucks North America is using Chronus Mentor to manage a corporate-wide mentoring program that helps employees grow their skills and careers. Since the launch of the program late last fall, Daimler has seen mentoring participation skyrocket across more locations while they’ve streamlined the program administration for reduced time and effort.
Daimler is incorporating an important new method for more effective corporate learning and development: “pull” tactics vs. “push” tactics. Recently Bersin by Deloitte stated in a new report, Global Human Capital Trends 2014: “In a ‘pull’ learning environment, workers take it upon themselves to find information, educate themselves, and share their own expertise. In fact, our research shows that creating this type of learning culture, where employees willingly share skills and knowledge, is now one of the most important factors in business success.”
Daimler’s program originally began as a single-site, mentoring program that required hands-on administration. Brian Stowe, Manager, Learning and Development, at Daimler Trucks North America, explained, “We wanted to come up with a scalable, extensive program that we could grow to support our blended learning solutions, leadership initiatives, and corporate culture initiatives. To us, mentoring is the glue that holds these together. That’s what we were looking for when we came across Chronus — something to make all of that happen.”
After researching the mentoring software options, Daimler switched from their previous vendor to Chronus Mentor. Suz Hahn, Learning Architect for Daimler’s Learning and Development, implemented the new program. “We were attracted to the resources available in Chronus Mentor — handbooks, tasks, and milestones. We liked that we could offer the program to all employees and they could find their own mentors. It was not a hand-match for us,” she said.
Today, using Chronus Mentor, Daimler has scaled the program to accommodate more than 4,000 employees across 11 locations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. “Our aim is multi-purpose mentoring. We’re providing career development and self-development of mentors and mentees. We’re also using Chronus Mentor to cultivate future leaders and talent within Daimler,” said Hahn. According to Daimler, they’ve created “mentoring buzz” at all levels of the organization.
Daimler believes their new program is improving employee engagement, learning, and satisfaction. “Our goal was to have it be more successful than the previous method. It certainly has proved that,” concluded Stowe. As the hands-on administrator of Chronus Mentor, Hahn closed by saying “It’s been a pleasure. I’ve really enjoyed this project. It was just so easy with Chronus in terms of the level of customer service and the maturity of the platform.”
Moving forward, Daimler plans to add more mentoring program tracks for new hire training as well as community outreach mentoring with local high school students.
“Daimler is the perfect example of a company who understands that investing today in their talent will fuel the success of their organization tomorrow,” said Vetri Vellore, CEO of Chronus Corporation. “By helping their employees learn through each other, they’re achieving a faster time to competency for employee learning while also improving learning retention. The Daimler corporate mentoring program is an excellent model that other companies can look to for corporate learning inspiration.”

This configurable solution is ideal for use by corporations, government entities, academic institutions and associations looking to connect people for more effective learning and development.
