ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The number of IT jobs grew 0.28 percent sequentially last month to 4,636,800, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment has grown by 2.61% since April 2013 adding 117,900 IT workers.

Engineering jobs ticked up in April, growing by 0.18 percent sequentially to 2,497,500. On a year-over-year basis, engineering employment has grown by 1.74% since April 2013 adding 42,700 engineering workers.

"After some sideways movement last year, it seems IT employment growth has settled into a pattern of consistent month-over-month growth. On the engineering side, we saw a modest uptick in the growth rate in April," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "Given we were able to add IT and engineering jobs in Q1 with GDP essentially flat, I am optimistic we will continue to see increasing IT and engineering job growth as the economy picks up steam in Q2 and Q3. My unabashedly bullish perspective is only tempered by my concern over the inadequate supply of talent in high-demand skill sets---a challenge for which there appears to be no easy remedy in the near term" added Roberts.
