SAN MATEO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/08/14 -- Movidius, the leader in mobile vision processor technology for connected devices, today announced that it had appointed Professor Takeo Kanade to its Technical Advisory Board.
One of the world's foremost researchers in computer vision, Professor Kanade will be responsible for providing strategic guidance and technological insights to Movidius to develop the next wave of visually aware mobile processing technologies. Currently a professor of computer science and robotics at Carnegie Mellon University, he was previously the Director of the Robotics Institute, founded the Digital Human Research Center, and has approximately 300 peer-reviewed academic publications and around 20 patents.

Professor Kanade has served for numerous government, industrial and university advisory boards, including the Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board (ASEB) of the National Research Council and NASA's Advanced Technology Advisory Committee. He has received numerous awards for his work in computer vision and robotics, including the Franklin Institute Bower Prize, ACM/AAAI Newell Award, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Pioneer Award, FIT Accomplishment Award and IEEE PAMI-TC Azriel Rosenfeld Lifetime Accomplishment Award.
