According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 900,000 Americans got divorced in the year 2011 compared to 2 million that got married. With the rising divorce rate especially among 55 and over age group, most financial advisers have divorced clients. Social Security Planning has a different set of rules for divorced clients.
