Companies mentioned in this article: PMC-Sierra, Inc.

BEIJING -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- PMC-Sierra, Inc. (PMC®) (NASDAQ:PMCS), the semiconductor and software solutions innovator transforming networks that connect, move and store big data, today announced it will host a Storage and Connectivity Innovation Summit at the China Cloud Computing Conference on May 22, 2014, from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. CDT, at the China National Convention Center in Beijing, China.

Hyperscale data centers are introducing a wide variety of new architectures with vastly different requirements to address an ever-increasing number of business models and applications. China is a driving force behind the new architecture of the global data center, enabled by storage and connectivity technology that is scalable, flexible, and high performance, while delivering optimal cost, power and infrastructure efficiency.

Presenters from Alibaba Group, C3, Inspur Group, Wiwynn Corporation, Yttibrium, and PMC will discuss the technologies and architectures that are solving the most challenging data center problems. PMC’s session will feature topics including hybrid and pure flash storage to accelerate applications, scalable architectures that have the flexibility to enable open applications and software-defined storage, and tiering data to deliver the most efficient and cost-effective storage. A technology demonstration will showcase two cutting-edge storage solutions that are critical to meeting current demands of storage system administrators.

“Each of China’s hyperscale data centers has its own specific requirements, and this creates a tremendous opportunity for innovation,” said Cui Li, chief architect of Data Center Products, Inspur Group. “Working with PMC’s flexible solutions will allow us to address these varied requirements and still provide consistently excellent performance and scalability.”

“No matter where they are in the world, today’s IT executives are dealing with the same complex storage issues,” said Travis Karr, vice president and general manager of PMC’s Enterprise Storage Division. “They need to reach the highest levels of density, efficiency and performance in their data centers to deal with huge volumes of data, and they need to do it securely with as little power as possible. PMC is leading the ecosystem with storage innovation to deliver new architectures that address these issues.”

Keynote speakers and panelists include:

  • Gongbiao Niu, Senior System Architect, Alibaba Group
  • Paul Ju, SVP and COO, Wiwynn Corporation
  • Cui Li, Chief Architect of Data Center Products, Inspur Group
  • Per Brasher, Founder of Yttibrium. Chair and founder of OCP Storage initiative, including architecting OpenVault and ColdStorage while director for Facebook
  • Dr. Chen Ying, Founder of C3, former deputy director of IBM Research China
  • Travis Karr, VP & GM, Enterprise Storage Division, PMC

Media are invited to join the sessions, and executives and partner attendees are available for interviews.

Technology Demonstrations:

PMC will demonstrate its Series 8 12Gb/s SAS RAID adapter with integrated Zero Maintenance Cache Protection (ASR-81605ZQ) and maxCache Plus™, its advanced caching and tiering software. The demonstration features a two-tiered storage solution comprised of 12Gb/s SAS SSDs and HDDs. The performance tier is based on Seagate’s 1200 12Gb/s SAS SSDs, which accelerate a second tier of Seagate Enterprise-class Constellation.2 SATA HDDs. Adaptec maxCache Plus tiering functionality and the redundant storage pools are both managed through Adaptec’s maxView Storage Manager.

The Series 8 adapter family, including a new 4-port RAID adapter (ASR-8405 available in May 2014), enables denser, faster and more configurable storage environments, which translates directly into faster data delivery and access. Innovations like the maxCache Plus tiering capability for Series 8 help data center architects get the most value and performance out of their storage assets.

A second demonstration will feature an Adaptec by PMC 12Gb/s SAS HBA prototype, showcasing an example of the raw sustained IOPS that can be achieved when combining 12Gb/s SAS SSD technology with PMC’s 12Gb/s IO controller architecture.

PMC’s industry-leading system-on-chip solutions and Adaptec by PMC RAID Adapters and HBAs deliver the technology innovation to enable the next-generation hyperscale data center. For more information, visit: www.pmcs.com/datacenter.
