SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/20/14 -- Meru Networks® (NASDAQ: MERU), a leader in intelligent Wi-Fi networking, today announced that the Saskatoon Police Service has deployed a Meru wireless network at its new 350,000 square-foot headquarters in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. When fully occupied in August, the new $122 million facility will house 800 staff members and will bring a technical forensics lab, public instruction areas, an indoor firing range, parking and general office facilities all under one roof.

"From a technical standpoint this has been one of those technologies that's like a utility. You turn it on and it works as advertised. We've had very little trouble with it," said Jack Heiser, director of technological services at Saskatoon Police Service. "In the year-and-a-half we've had Meru deployed, we've had virtually no down time."

The Wi-Fi network from Meru was selected for its ability to transfer video quickly from patrol cars to the main building at the end of each shift. In an average 24-hour span, officers upload more than 180 videos totaling 50 gigabytes of data. The video is uploaded through the Meru wireless LAN to a storage array from which the staff can easily review and retrieve legally critical scenes from the day's patrols. The four-to-six-hour videos document all interactions that the officers have with the public during the course of their 12 hours on the job. The recorded moments are proving invaluable for the staff during contested violations and he-said/she-said altercations. They even help the city avoid legal suits.

"Another vendor told us that we would need one access point for every four patrol cars to avoid congestion," said Dave McGillivray, support manager for technological services at Saskatoon Police Service. "Meru decimated that claim and proved that one or two APs could handle our entire fleet. Meru's technology stands out in its ability to meet our needs."

"The Saskatoon police force needs a network that allows officers to concentrate on public safety, not worrying about upload failures," said Manish Rai, vice president of corporate marketing at Meru Networks. "Meru Wi-Fi powered by its MobileFLEX architecture ensures exceptional performance and easy data transfers for the entire staff, making it simple and affordable for public agencies to improve public safety and protect their law enforcement officers."
