NEW YORK -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- First Look Media, the news organization created by Pierre Omidyar, announced today that it has hired Morgan Marquis-Boire as director of security. In the new role, he will be responsible for identifying, prioritizing and mitigating potential threats to the security and privacy of First Look’s newsrooms and digital magazines.
Marquis-Boire comes to First Look from Google, where he spent the last six years developing tools and infrastructure to manage major information security initiatives. As a founding member of the Google Incident Response Team, he was responsible for the company’s highest level of security escalation, specializing in digital forensics, digital investigations, and malware analysis.
Marquis-Boire has a specific interest in managing threats to high-risk users such as journalists, dissidents and activists. Since 2012, he has worked with the Citizen Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto as a researcher and technical advisor, and he has also provided volunteer forensic services and ad-hoc security consulting to the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
In addition, he is a founding member of the Secure Domain Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides internet infrastructure providers with tools to combat abuse and maintain an open and secure internet.

Prior to joining Google, Marquis-Boire worked for Security-Assessment.com, where he specialized in penetration testing and digital forensics.
He is frequently invited to speak at major security conferences industry events, and he is a prolific writer on such topics as malware, surveillance, censorship, and free expression online.
Marquis-Boire will start on June 5. He will be based in San Francisco.
