QUINCY, Mass. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Granite Telecommunications, LLC, a provider of communications solutions to businesses, hosted its 11th annual Granite Day on Saturday, June 7, a free, community event, in support of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Thousands of community members gathered at Granite’s headquarters in Quincy to enjoy carnival-like festivities which included food from local restaurants, rides, games, music, arts and crafts, and other entertainment. Granite’s leadership and employees have worked diligently to raise over $2.6 million this year and $4 million overall to assist Dana-Farber in its quest to provide care for cancer patients and ongoing research for a cure to the disease.

Granite has a special connection with Dana-Farber, as the CEO Rob Hale’s father and co-founder Judy Hale’s husband, Bob Hale was treated at the institute. This past March, Granite and the Hales raised $2.1 million dollars when more than 400 employees volunteered to undergo the buzzers to help defeat cancer through Granite’s “Saving by Shaving” event.

All food, games and rides at Granite Day were provided free of charge. Granite did this by coordinating donations of food and supplies from local businesses, including Stop & Shop, H.P. Hood, La Paloma, Maggiano’s, The Ninety-Nine, Cathay Pacific, Lessings, Fratelli’s, Applebee’s, Bertucci’s, Boston Market, Super Chef , and Puritan Pizza. Over 140 Granite employees also donated over 2,500 hours of volunteer time to help organize, coordinate and perform activities on this day.

“We are so proud of our employees and partners who volunteered their time, effort, money and to support the fight against cancer and we are honored to work with a life-changing organization like Dana-Farber,” said Rob Hale. “We’re so thrilled to have Dana-Farber be a part of Granite Day to help us celebrate this community.”

Granite has been named repeatedly as one of the most philanthropic companies. In addition to the donations to Dana-Farber over the past several years Granite has given $27,230,000 to more than 200 different community organizations. On August 19, 2014 Granite will be honored for commitment to defeating cancer by Dana Farber and the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, when Rob Hale and his mother Judy Hale will be presented the Boston Red Sox Jimmy Fund Award in a pregame award ceremony.

“Granite and Quincy are synonymous as our city was once known for its superior quality granite," said Mayor Tom Koch. “Granite's leadership over the years and the dedication and commitment of the entire staff and employees to our city is phenomenal. We are proud to have them as a partner in the city.”
